Current List of Schengen Countries (2025)
The Schengen Area currently consists of 29 European countries. Within this area, there are generally no border controls. The 90/180-day rule applies to the entire area as a single entity.
Important Exceptions & Updates
๐ท๐ด ๐ง๐ฌ Romania & Bulgaria ("Schengen Air")
Since March 2024, both countries are part of the Schengen area, but initially only for air and sea travel. Land border controls remain in place. Important for calculation: Days spent in these countries count fully towards your 90 days!
๐จ๐ญ ๐ณ๐ด ๐ฎ๐ธ ๐ฑ๐ฎ Non-EU Members
Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein are NOT members of the EU but are part of the Schengen Area. The 90/180 rule applies here as well.
What is ETIAS? (Starting 2025)
Starting mid-2025, the EU will introduce the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). It is not a visa, but a travel authorization (similar to ESTA in the USA).
